Unlike evergreen conifers, Dawn Redwood changes colour and sheds its foliage in autumn. Its branching remains on view through winter before fresh growth returns in spring. Vigorous growth offers rewarding opportunities for refinement.

Position & light

Keep outdoors in a bright position with good airflow. Some shade during the hottest part of summer can help limit rapid drying in a shallow pot.

Watering

Keep the root ball evenly moist, checking daily in warm weather and more often if conditions demand it. Water the whole planting thoroughly and allow drainage. Do not let the soil dry out completely.

Feeding & pruning

Feed during active growth following the product instructions. Trim extending shoots to maintain the design, and assess spring repotting according to root growth and the condition of the soil.

Winter care

Seasonal browning and leaf fall are normal. Keep cool outdoors with protection for the pot during prolonged hard freezes. Continue checking moisture while the tree is dormant.
