Our brand is inspired by Captain Cronjager of the Hollywood division who is a 'cold-eyed hatchet-faced' Los Angeles homicide detective in the full-length detective story The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. Published during 1939, the novel is set in Los Angeles and Bay City. This novel was made into the iconic 1946 movie of the same name starring the legendary Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, and is an exemplar for American film noir.
